| Summary from the literature of things to consider about Homework: |
| 1. Homework should be meaningful. |
| 2. Parents involvement starts with asking if there is homework and then
checking to see that it is done. |
| 3. In checking, ask the students to talk through the homework. |
| 4. In checking, ask the student to explain the answer. |
| 5. Adults should establish a routine of checking, including asking if
student has the homework assignment as early as possible in the evening. |
| 6. In the home and library there should be an environment for completing
homework. This can include a special place and/or a special time. |
| 7. Homework calendars can be developed that indicate type of projects
during which times of the year. For example, History Fair is in the Fall while Science
Fair is in the early Spring etc. |
| 8. Completing homework should be acknowledged and positively reinforced. |
| 9. A Homework Policy containing the purpose of homework and maybe time
limitations is useful. |
| 10. Libraries could establish Homework Clubs and/or Homework Helpdesks. |
| 11. Homework should not be a punishment. |
