Reading Motivational Programs
Accelerated Reader The AR program is available at Sherwood Elementary. Sherwood was the first Spring Branch school to use the Accelerated Reader and is quite proud of its program. At Sherwood, students SHARP test and earn prizes. SHARP stands for Sherwood's Happy Accelerated Reading Pros, a reading incentive program based on Accelerated Reader. Students in grades 1 - 5 participate by reading designated books. After they finish a book, they take a test on a computer in classrooms or the library. When they pass a test, they earn points. As they earn points, they receive prizes. Top readers are recognized at a special awards ceremony in May. Reading is Fundamental Sherwood Elementary participates in the Reading is Fundamental program which gives a new paperback book to every child in the school every quarter. Our students look forward to the R.I.F. days and love their books! Please contact the office at 713-365-4800 if you would like to financially help sponsor this program . Math and Literacy Night The most recent opportunity for parents and children to make math and reading games was January 25th. You can tell by the smiles that everyone had a great time!
