Professional Development Hours

All SBISD Librarians need 3 types of professional development. Below are the definitions and examples of the professional development needed:

40 hours per year

12 hours per year

Flex days (2 = 12 hours)

These hours are the required Staff Development Days on the school calendar! These hours must be earned outside your contract time and be related to district initiatives. These hours must be earned outside your contract time and be related to district initiatives (needs principal prior approval).
Although all other staff development offered, such as monthly Librarians' staff development meetings, will count, the official staff development days will give the needed 40 hours. Example #1:
Librarian classes offered at the Media Center starting at 3:30 PM on Tuesday and Thursday.

TLA District 8 Fall Conference, Saturday, October 9th.

Region IV workshops (and our classes) taken during the summer.

For Librarians certified after 1999, all of the above will count toward your 200 hours per 5 years.

 Non-Contract

Ø 12 hours each year

   (36 hours over 3 years)

 

Ø No stipend can be earned.

 

Ø Unmet by end of three years (May, 2007), loss of salary increase, if one is approved by School Board

Ø Through approved district/site initiatives

 

Ø Where applicable, form completed for principal approval/signature and submitted to Assistant Superintendent for School Improvement and Support 

Ø Outside of employee contract work day

 

FLEX

Ø 6 non-contract clock hours for each FLEX day

 

Ø No stipend can be earned.

 

Ø FLEX hours can be used to meet the 40 hours of district staff development

 

Ø FLEX hours may not be used to meet the 12/36 non-contract hours policy

Ø Through approved district/site initiatives

 

Ø Form completed for principal approval/signature

Ø Outside of employee contract work day

Paraprofessional, Auxiliary and Office Professionals

Ø 6 hours per year

  (18 hours over 3 years)

 

Ø Unmet by end of three years (May, 2007), loss of  salary increase, if one is approved by School Board

Ø Activities aligned with District goals, objectives and systemic initiatives

 

Ø Principal approval for attendance

Ø During District/Campus Professional Development Days
