Designing & Using
Library Web Pages
Description: Librarians will learn
how to use FrontPage to build Library web pages that convey information about
the program and that support classroom assignments.
Integrating TEKS into
Library Lessons
Description: Librarians will learn how to
integrate TEKS Student Expectations tested on the TAKS into collaboratively
planned and taught Library lessons.
Monthly Librarians’ Staff
Development
Description: At regularly scheduled
meetings usually held Monday afternoons at various Libraries, Librarians will
learn, maintain, and refine skills in DDI, DI, Collaborative Team Learning, and
Technology integration. Library skills will also be taught.
Before School Starts
Librarians’ Staff Development
Description: Before Teachers come on
duty, Librarians will learn, maintain, and refine skills in DDI, DI,
Collaborative Team Learning, and Technology integration. Library skills will
also be taught.
Introduction to JWALK
Description:
In this course we will concentrate on
learning how to use all of the basic functions of our administrative menu in
Gateway, our library management software, using JWALK version.
Library
Automation Reports
Description: In this course we will
concentrate on learning how to create and use the various report options in the
administrative menu of Gateway, our library management software, using the JWALK
version to get accurate data for monthly reports and for assessment.
MARC Magician
Description:
In this course we will explore all of the
capabilities of data management in the Marc Magician, our cataloging software,
so that all librarians can use the program effectively to check vendor records
and to do original cataloging. Included will be information on cataloging
websites and copy cataloging.
Library
Resources Page Overview
Description:
Librarians will review all the databases and some links from the LRP that
support classroom assignments and particular database features that can be used
as hooks to encourage teachers to use the resources personally in the
development of lessons.
Language
Arts and Social Studies Emphasis using LRP
Description: Librarians will review all
the databases and some links from the LRP that specifically support classroom
assignments in Language Arts and Social Studies. Particular emphasis will be
paid to the resources that support the TEKS in those areas.
Math and
Science Emphasis using LRP
Description: Librarians will review all
the databases and some links from the LRP that specifically support classroom
assignments in Math and Science. Particular emphasis will be paid to the
resources that support the TEKS in those areas.
Cataloging Overview using Templates
Description: Librarians will review
cataloging procedures using the features of Marc Magician with emphasis on tags
important for various types of items. Downloading of records will be included.
CIP
Information from the verso of a book
Description: Librarians will review
cataloging procedures for original cataloging using information from the CIP
found in books.

Training 2004

Librarians - everything you ever wanted to know about MARC Magician and then
some. You will learn how to maneuver through the program, how to import records
from vendor disks and outside sources. You will also learn what is required in
"cleaning" your records before submitting them to be loaded. Software training
for Librarians; Importing MARC records from outside sources;
Manipulating / editing MARC records
