Dialogue by Area Superintendents with directors/ 10-2-00 Barry Bishop/Library Information Services: Beliefs Desired Results (the teal text in a smaller font are my interpretations of the scripted brainstorming notes) Research is a competency for all ages, critical to develop research competency (Students should develop research competencies as a result of good Library programs) Teacher competencies in media resource, help facilitate competencies in media resource and help them to self-evaluate for growth. (I was not sure whether this meant that Librarians should provide staff development for teachers so that teachers were literate of the resources available for their instruction or if this meant that Librarians should self evaluating their resource competencies so that they are always current and improving?) Critical thinking, quality materials available (I interpret this to mean that Libraries should provide quality materials and instruction that fosters critical thinking skills.) Fresh, updated, state-of-the-art facilities, welcoming environment (I took this to be two issues. One is that Librarians need to be involved in designing quality facilities that are functional and very appealing/welcoming aesthetically. I also understood that Librarians should work to make the facilities they have to be warm welcoming environments in which to learn.) World-class resources and facilities (Librarians should strive to provide world class resources for students and staff and facilities should be world class.) Collaboration on Academics 2000, guided reading (Collaboration with all research and literacy initiatives need to include the Librarians.) Librarian, co-teaching (This was my statement about teachers and Librarians planning curriculum, lessons, activities, projects together and teaching together so that the resources and the classroom instruction are integrated.) Flex schedules with library hours, availability Connection between home and school |
