TAAS Objective 1 - Grade 5 Mathematics

The student will demonstrate an understanding of number concepts.

           

(5.1) Number, operation, and quantitative reasoning. The student uses place value to represent whole numbers and decimals.

      Select appropriate reading materials and other media to organize information and integrate information. State Library Standards II B-1, 3 The changing role for school library programs provides resources for students to create a community of lifelong learners. Three roles of school librarians help to promote this program: The learning and teaching role which supports the instructional goals of the school; the information access role which is the traditional role of the school librarian; and the program administrator which provides for the management of the program and provides training for members. (5.9) Geometry and spatial reasoning. The student recognizes the connection between ordered pairs of numbers and locations of points on a plane.

           

The student is expected to: locate and name points on a coordinate grid using ordered pairs of whole numbers

The student will demonstrate an understanding of measurement concepts using metric and customary units.

           

(5.11) Measurement. The student applies measurement concepts.

    Standard III

The student who is information literate uses information accurately and creatively.

 

Offer students instruction in the use of the library for completion of teacher developed activities that require active use of information to solve problems. State Library Standards II A-2    

The student is expected to:

(A) measure to solve problems involving length (including perimeter), weight, capacity, time, temperature, and area

           

The student is expected to:

(B) describe numerical relationships between units of measure within the same measurement system, such as an inch is one-twelfth of a foot

      Offer students instruction in the use of the library for completion of teacher developed activities that require active use of information to solve problems. State Library Standards II A-2    

The student is expected to:

(A) round whole numbers and decimals through tenths to approximate reasonable results in problem situations

           

TEKS-based TAAS and end-of-course tests are criterion-referenced assessments that measure students mastery of the statewide curriculum. All test formats are multiple-choice except for the written composition in each TAAS writing test.
