LESSON PLAN:

                Bluebonnet Books

Objective:  The student will be able to choose a Bluebonnet book from the current list to read and understand the qualifications of voting.

Materials:

  • Copy of each Bluebonnet Book
  • TLA Bluebonnet Video

Procedure/Instruction:

  • Give a Book Talk on each book or have students view the TLA Bluebonnet video which presents each of the books. Explain that the guidelines to vote, in January, for their favorite book is to read at least 5 books from the list of 20 books.

Closure/Evaluation:   Lead discussion of  books read by yourself and/or students and which five they find interesting to read so that they will be eligible to vote.

Comments:  Teachers can participate in book talks on Bluebonnet books they have read.  Classroom logs for individual students can be kept in the form of a booklet or chart to keep track of the books students have read.  I collect the booklets every 4 weeks to give out incentives: Bluebonnet t-shirt transfer for each book read, TLA Bluebonnet bookmark for 5 books read, special pencil for 10 books read, a certificate and attend a party for 15 books read, a hardcover copy of one of the books for 20 books read.
