Lesson  Plan:       Genre T- Chart

Objective:  The student will compare and contrast two or more types of genre

Materials:  Paper and books of the various genres being compared.

Procedure/Instruction:

  • Make chart listing the types of genres being compared.
  • Brainstorm  elements to compare
  • Fill in chart with examples from the different genre
  • Discuss how the two (or more) genres are alike or different.

Closure/Evaluation: Discuss the two (or more) genres and their characteristics.  Talk about specific titles within each genre.

Comments:  This lesson can be done as an introduction to a new type of genre, or as a conclusion lesson after reading from various forms.  This could be done in small groups or whole groups.  The T-Chart can be done for many different lessons where two things need to be compared.
