Guide Words

Objective:  Using guide words, the student will place the word on the correct tree.    

Materials: Five laminated paper trees, laminated colored leaves with a word written on them, double sided tape, five sets of guide words (about-drop) (drug-heat) (heave-orbit) (order-sock) (soft-zoom)

Procedure/Instruction: Display the five trees with guide words attached to the bottom of the trunk.  Pass out a leaf with the word on it and have students take turns attaching the leaves to the trees.

Closure/Evaluation: Give students a dictionary to locate a given word using guide words.

Comments:  As students place a leaf on the tree, the other students show which tree they think the word would go on by holding up the correct number of fingers.
