On the average, school with Librarians had 89.3 percent of students meeting minimum TAAS expectations for reading. While schools without Librarians had 78.4 percent of the students meeting minimum TAAS expectations for reading.
Elementary:
1. A small but significant approximately 4% of the variance in TAAS scores was accounted for by a Librarian in elementary school.
2. Of over 200 variables these were most important in eleemntary Libraries:
     Library volumes purchased in the preceding year per 100 students
     Library operational expenditures per student
     Library computers connected to a modem per 100 students
     Library software packages per 100 students
3. Average operating budget per student was $22.14 for elementary.
4. 38.5 percent of elementary school Libraries have only one staff member.
5. On average, elementary Libraries have 10 computers. 
Middle School:
1. A small but significant approximately 4% of the variance in TAAS scores was accounted for by a Librarian in middle school.
2. Of over 200 variables these were most important in middle school Libraries:
     Identifying materials for instructional units developed by teachers
     Providing information skills instruction to individuals or groups
3. Average operating budget per student was $24.26 for middle school.
4. 35 percent of middle school Libraries have only one staff member.
5. On average, middle school Libraries have 16 computers. 
High School:
1. A significant 8.2% of the variance in TAAS scores was accounted for by a Librarian in high school.
2. Of over 200 variables these were most important in high school Libraries:
     Library staff per 100 students
     Library staff hours per 100 students
     Library hours of operation per 100 students
     Volumes per student
     Current subscriptions to magazines and newspapers per 100 students
     Planning instructional units with teachers
     Providing staff development to teachers
3. Average operating budget per student was $31.45 for high school.
4. 22.5 percent of high school Libraries have only one staff member.
5. On average, high school Libraries have 20 computers.
