Adding a Barcode or Changing Holding
Information in LM320

Back ] Up ] Next ]

You will use LM320 when you need to add a book to an existing bibliographic record in the database, for instance when you are dealing with duplicate barcodes, or when you need to change information about material like the price, vendor, fund code, or call number. The important thing to know about this menu is that whatever you do here will only affect information for the materials in YOUR library, in other words you cannot change information in the MARC record from this menu!

1. To add a barcode you will go to LM320 and type or scan in the new barcode, then click on the "Add" icon. You will get a pop-up asking if you want to add a single barcode or a group or range of barcodes. Normally you will be adding a single barcode, you would use the group option when you are adding 3 copies of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Askaban to the same bibliographic record, you would use the range option if you were adding a set of barcodes to the same bibliographic record that are numerically sequential. So select the option by clicking on the correct one.
2. The next screen you will see is where you tell the system what bibliographic record you want to attach this barcode to. To do this you can either type in the control number if you know it, or click on the binoculars next to the control number box and select "Bibliographic titles". You will get a list of titles in alphabetical order, type in the title and press enter or click on "OK". When the correct record comes up double click on it and you will automatically go back to your holding screen with that record selected. If you need to be sure that you are choosing the correct record you can click on the card with the pencil to view the record, or click on the card with the magnifying glass to select the record.
3. Once you have selected the correct record you will need to check all of the other information, like call #, System and Library item groups, price, and you will need to add the vendor #. When all of the information is correct press enter or click on "OK" twice and the record is saved and added to your collection.
4. It is important to remember that if you are adding several items you will need to change the System and Library item group for each subsequent record.
