If it is an administrator and
you have been given a lot of things to do then you might ask which of these
tasks is a priority for you?
·
Well, I can help you with this
part today, and we can make arrangements to do the other tasks later.
·
Response to an administrator
and/or teacher: I don’t have the background to help you with that, but I
think there are one or two other people on campus that are better qualified
to handle this, like……
·
Sending an email that the
teacher’s materials are ready for either them to pick up or for a student to
pick up for them. (be specific in communications)
·
Teach the teacher how to find
materials, “Would you like for me to show you how to find the materials from
your classroom in Meriwether? Then you can just email the material request
to me for checking out.
·
If a teacher typically checks
out all the materials for an upcoming unit, causing lack of resources for
the rest of the department/grade level.
o
Do you want me to check these
materials out to the team leader so that the whole grade level can share
them?
o
Shall I pull all of the
materials for that unit and divide them equally among all of the teachers in
your grade level.
o
Pull the books and keep them in
the Library and encourage the classes to come to the library to use the
materials.
·
Can we do this a different way,
or offer other options for accomplishing the task.
·
When the student comes up don’t
just say NO you can’t check that out, it’s too hard! Instead ask them to
open the book up and take a look at the pages to see if it is a good book
for you.
·
Let me put it on my list of
things to do and see when I can get to it.
·
Let me talk to the principal
about that, since it’s not in my budget.
·
Let me see if I can squeeze it
into my budget, if not you might want to ask ??? because they might have
funds for this.
·
If an administrator asks you to
do lunch duty for an absent teacher, explain the impact it will have on the
students and teachers it will affect.
·
Ask what day NEXT week you will
need this.
·
Well I can’t get to that today,
but can I get it to you ….(later)
·
Saying no, by saying you will
ask the other Librarians about it,
·
Let me check on that, or
investigate it
·
Brainstorm alternatives
·
Let’s see if we can figure out
how to do that together
·
Offering alternative choices or
solutions
·
We need to master the “art of
looking helpful”
·
If they are asking you to be on
a committee that conflicts, you can say; let me think about it, let me check
my calendar,
·
Don’t enable,
