| Could not get to the web page but can
inform about problems with program Accelerated Reader. It has been operating at Wilchester
for many years now in a strictly PC environment. It has operated from both a Novell and NT
server. Problems have existed under both platforms. Data corrupts periodically sufficient
to require a utility to be run on the database. This sometimes works and sometimes does
not. If the child is taking a test and the server crashes or there is a power surge or
outage . . the test reports to have been already taken but will not show up as having been
taken. Frustration has always run high due to these problems because the parents want the
program but it can't be counted on to function properly. No other database program I'm
aware of has an systemic problem that regularly requires correcting with utilities. If AR
is aware of the problem sufficient to have instructions available to attempt correction .
.but has never done anything to correct the problem internally . . perhaps someone should
ask why not. The answer to that question might provide insight into whether this is a
program the district would be interested in. Both the technology specialist and IT are
