Line in the Sand
1. Librarians are information specialists (not just book
specialists) Being a book specialist is a subset of being an information
specialist. Being an online subscription databases specialist is a subset of
being an information specialist. Being a web 2.0 specialist is also a
subset of being an information specialist.
2. Librarians do not have a curriculum. As master
teachers, a Librarian's job is to collaborate with the classroom teachers to
help them cover their classroom curriculum with also infusing technology,
information literacy, research, and web 2.0 into co-teaching.
3. Librarians must be aware of where students are and
tailor materials and instructional strategies to meet the needs of the
students.
4. Using all the above knowledge, Librarians must foster
the love of reading among all their patrons (students and staff).
A Truth
